At a conference in Tabriz, Sohrab Sohrabi emphasized the significance of wheat in Iran's history and food security, highlighting the country's potential for self-sufficiency. He discussed the global scale of wheat production and its political implications, noting that it meets half of the energy and protein needs for many Iranians. Sohrabi pointed out that Iran's wheat yields are not at their optimal capacity due to various factors like nutrition, diseases, and seed quality, but emphasized advancements in addressing nutrition aspects. The Agricultural Jihad Organization is implementing measures to boost productivity, including a pilot project in 446 counties and a program for rainfed fields, covering 3.5 million hectares, primarily for wheat cultivation.
