The use of genetically modified crops in the European Union has been decreasing, with a significant decrease observed in 2022. Currently, Spain is the main country where these crops are concentrated, particularly MON810 corn. However, the cultivation of GMO crops is only 1% of the total area cultivated with corn in the EU. Many EU countries have used the exit or safeguard clause to restrict or prohibit the use and sale of genetically modified crops in their territories.
