The poinsettia returns every year to Spanish homes to accompany them during the Christmas holidays, a plant that adds color and whose purchase is increasingly being brought forward, with 2025 seeing higher volumes and tricks to extend its stay beyond the holiday season. Spain produces around 10 million poinsettias (Christmas flowers) annually, with 36% of the national production concentrated in the provinces of Almería and Granada, according to data from Plantaespaña, the ornamental section of the association of producers and marketers, Coexphal. The campaign began in summer, when the greenhouses in Almería started in July and August to plant over 3 million units in a staggered manner. Larger formats are planted in mid-July, smaller ones in August and September, and after transplanting and pinching, each plant receives its own dripper to ensure uniform development.
