The potato harvest in Germany is shaping up to be the richest in 25 years.

In 2025, German farmers are expected to harvest around 13.4 million tons of potatoes, according to the preliminary Special Harvest and Quality Assessment published by the German Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs. If this forecast holds true, the potato harvest in Germany will increase by 5.3% compared to last year's good harvest and by 17% above the ten-year average. The last time such a harvest was recorded in Germany was in 2000. The ministry attributes the positive result to the expansion of planted areas by 6.7% compared to last year to 301 thousand hectares, which is the highest figure since the beginning of the millennium, as well as the expected yield growth of 5% compared to the long-term average to about 44 tons per hectare.
