The article discusses the pricing and availability of onions in Moldova's market, focusing on the transition from the previous year's stock to the new local onion crop. Initially, prices remained steady at 17-18 lei/kg ($0.99-1.01/kg), but soon dropped to 15-16 lei/kg ($0.83-0.9/kg) due to the arrival of the local crop and a decrease in demand. Despite the drop, prices are higher than in the recent past. The stable wholesale price is attributed to the limited plantation area, slow harvesting pace due to rain, and the need to maintain market stability without cheap Ukrainian imports. Exports of Moldovan onions to Ukraine are also mentioned, with prices significantly lower than in Moldova.
