Russia: The price of pike caviar may rise by 40% in the Astrakhan region this year

The price of pike caviar this year can reach about 5 thousand rubles per kg of finished products, which is approximately 40% higher than last year’s price. This is due to a decrease in the catch of this type of fish by industrial fishermen in the Astrakhan region, Andrei Markin, head of the Kaspriba Union of Fishing and Fish Processing Enterprises, told TASS. “This year there will definitely be an increase in prices for pike caviar. I’m talking now about official commodity producers. Their price per kg of salted and frozen pike caviar is projected to be around 5 thousand rubles. A standard glass jar of the fish delicacy of 112 g will cost 550- 600 rubles,” Markin said. According to him, this is due to low pike catches by industrial fishermen.
