Hay and straw prices have seen a significant decrease in August, reaching their lowest levels since July 2018 for hay and November 2020 for straw. This is due to an abundant supply and lack of quality issues, despite ongoing rain. However, the decline in prices may slow as a result of moisture and fungus affecting hay and silage quality. Despite the overall drop, prices vary across the federal states, with Saxony having the lowest hay prices at EUR 90 per tonne and West Lower Saxony and West the highest at EUR 158 and 150 euros, respectively.
