The Prime Minister of India presented new varieties of potatoes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled three innovative potato varieties – Kufri Chipson-5, versatile Kufri Bhaskar and purple Kufri Jamuniya – at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute. This was reported by The Potato Page at LinkedIn. Kufri Chipson-5 is said to have been developed specifically for the production of chips in view of the low share of Indian potato production in this sector. This variety matures in 90-100 days and produces creamy white oval tubers with creamy flesh and a floury texture. It is resistant to late blight. Kufri Chipson-5 is suitable for the plains of North India and similar agro-ecological conditions, it is characterized by good lodging and a moderate content of dry matter in tubers with a low reducing sugar content.
