Unlike past years, when October was another dry month following a series of previous ones, this autumn has returned us to a normal rainfall state. Therefore, the autumn sowing at this point is proceeding quite difficultly – in mud, equipment breakdowns, and a number of other problems, farmers reported. The good news is, after the current stationary front, which will last another day or two, sunny weather will set in, with the forecast to remain almost until November 10. Thus, in up to two weeks, the campaign could finish normally. The latest data on the progress of the sowing, presented by the Ministry of Agriculture as of October 16, show that the areas sown with wheat, barley, rye, and triticale are between 51.1% (barley) and 77.7% (triticale) below last year's levels.
