The Protected Designation of Origin (DOP) Peras de Rincón de Soto in Spain has commenced its pear harvest for the Blanquilla variety on August 12, with the Conference pear harvest expected to begin on August 19. The harvest is projected to be one of the best in recent years due to large pear size and high sugar content, with expectations of a record yield of 26 million kilos, up from 21 million kilos the previous year. This increase is anticipated to enable the DOP to enter new markets, including Andalusia, and support its expansion. The harvest schedule for La Rioja Media and La Rioja Alta is yet to be decided, and the DOP is monitoring the ripening parameters closely. The DOP has control over 1,297 hectares and operates 20 marketing centers, representing almost all of La Rioja's marketing sector.
