The Rural Development Administration has developed an artificial intelligence (AI)-based "Real-time Detection Device for Honey Bee Mites" (Vision, BeeSion) in collaboration with Kangwon National University, which can quickly and accurately diagnose honey bee mites, a major cause of the recurring mass deaths of honey bees in winter. Last year, 62% of honey bee colonies in the United States died, and bee damage is becoming severe worldwide, with honey bee mite infection and the resulting virus spread and increased resistance to control agents being cited as the main causes. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs is setting a concentrated control period for the summer when honey bee mites are actively breeding and is responding nationwide.
