Between January and February 2022, Cambodia saw a 35.21% increase in milled rice exports, reaching a total of 103,058 tons compared to the same period last year. The majority of these exports were sent to China, with Europe also being a significant market. However, concerns have been raised about potential supply chain disruptions due to the ongoing conflict in Europe and sanctions against Russia, despite Russia not being a major rice buyer for Cambodia. Cambodia is actively diversifying its rice export markets, focusing on Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and ASEAN countries, as it has observed a decrease in rice exports to Europe due to high transport costs and a scarcity of shipping bills caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
