Gulianka cheese, celebrated for its distinctive flavor derived from sheep grazing on saline soil in Gulianka village, Braila district, Romania, is considered the country's tastiest cheese. Produced from sheep's milk, efforts are underway to gain European recognition for this traditional product. Local sheep breeder Cristinel Sima, managing 700 animals, highlights the cheese's natural and healthy qualities. The region, home to approximately 24,000 sheep across 23,000 hectares of pastures, faces challenges such as the need for producers to form an association to meet certification requirements. Despite some resistance from local breeders, initiatives to establish a cooperative and a milk processing factory are in progress, aiming to preserve and promote Gulianka cheese's unique heritage.
