The Secretary of Food, Bioeconomy and Regional Development of Argentina, Marcelo Alós, stated that the high exchange rate is leading to profitability in regional economies, especially in the Humid Pampa where certain productions are experiencing "super profitability." He suggested correcting this asymmetry through the application of export duties on efficient productions. The government has exempted some products from export duties since the beginning of 2021, while others still face taxes. Alós emphasized the need for regional economies to generate added value, employment, and roots. He also pointed out the challenges faced by these economies, including the inability to incorporate technologies in the production process, product preservation, and logistics, using the example of tomato production. The Ministry of Agriculture is working to address these issues.
