The Ministry of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development in Sarawak is aiming to increase the self-sufficiency rate for ruminant livestock from the current 15 percent to 25 percent by 2030. This is by expanding the ruminant livestock population to 158,750, which includes 60,000 cattle, 20,000 buffalo, and 78,750 goats and sheep. To reach this goal, the ministry has allocated RM40 million in the 12th Malaysia Plan for various programs, such as breeding schemes, integrating cattle breeding with oil palm estates, and establishing livestock and fattening centers. The privatization of livestock stations is also part of the strategy.
