The Spanish tuna fleet has become the first in the world to certify its tropical tuna catches in all four oceanic regions, obtaining the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) seal for its catches in the Atlantic Ocean. This certification covers 76% of its catches, or 265,000 tons, made by 44 freezer purse seine vessels and adds to the MSC certificate for the Eastern Pacific yellowfin stock that the fleet obtained in January 2024. The MSC praised the good status of the Atlantic skipjack population and the detailed fleet management information provided. The Spanish tuna fleet's goal is to achieve 100% MSC certification in the future.
