In 2025, Ukraine made significant progress in reforming the fisheries and aquaculture sectors. The changes focused on harmonizing national legislation with EU law, introducing transparent market mechanisms, and digitizing the industry. This made the rules of operation in the sector understandable for businesses and strengthened state management of aquatic biological resources. A significant achievement of the year was Ukraine's accession to the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean. Participation in the Commission provided Ukraine with the opportunity to participate in the formation of international policies in the field of fisheries management, aquaculture development, and the protection of marine biological resources, particularly in the Black Sea region.
