The Ministry of Agriculture in Argentina has successfully opened the United Arab Emirates as a new export market for refrigerated and frozen pork, following a acceptance of Argentina's sanitary proposal by the UAE. Despite the UAE being a Muslim country where pork consumption is prohibited, it permits the importation of pork for consumption by non-residents. This means that pork exporters from Argentina will only need to obtain a health certification, not a Halal certificate, to export to the UAE. In 2019, the UAE imported 15,000 tons of pork and by-products, valued at $37.3 million.
