The European Union has granted the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status to the 'Urbezo' wine from the 'Urbezo' wine estate in Cariñena, Aragon, Spain. This marks the sixth PDO in the Autonomous Community of Aragon and the 104th in Spain, and the second from Aragon to receive such recognition. The wine is produced from a variety of grapes and can be still, white, rosé, or red, with the possibility of aging in oak barrels. This status is crucial for the development and sustainability of rural areas by differentiating quality and benefiting farmers financially and socially. The urbanization of rural areas and the promotion of Spain's food image are key benefits of such designations, aligning with Spain's Food of Spain strategy.
