Despite facing challenges due to adverse weather conditions and diseases, Vietnam's shrimp exports have seen positive growth in major markets in 2024. The country's shrimp exports to China and Hong Kong increased by 44% and 31% respectively, with lobster exports experiencing a sharp increase. Shrimp exports to the US also saw a growth of 17%, amidst decreasing imports from the top three suppliers. Japan, South Korea, and the EU also recorded positive growth in imports of Vietnamese shrimp. The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Kien Giang is working towards sustainable aquaculture and promoting the issuance of farming facility codes to trace product origin. The Department also recommends localities to guide shrimp farmers to replace traditional farming processes with one that focuses on biosafety and saves production costs.
