Vietnam is once again leading the global export of several high-value products, with its cashew industry maintaining its top position for nearly two decades. In the first 10 months of 2024, the country achieved 17.9% higher exports of cashew nuts in volume and 21.4% higher in value compared to the same period in the previous year, reaching 3.58 billion USD. The US, China, and the Netherlands were the largest markets. With stable demand in traditional markets and expectations to set a new export record of over 4.5 billion USD for the year, the industry is set to grow at an average of 4.6% from 2022 to 2027 due to increasing vegan trends and health consciousness in emerging markets. However, the industry faces challenges such as high production costs, raw material shortages, and price fluctuations, as it relies heavily on imported raw cashew nuts, mostly from Africa, accounting for about 90% of the supply.
