The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam announced a significant development in agricultural trade relations with the US, following a productive meeting between Deputy Minister Hoang Trung and Deputy Secretary of the US Department of Agriculture Hafemeister. This meeting has paved the way for the export of passion fruit to the US, with discussions also covering the review processes for seedless lemons, guavas, and jackfruits. Additionally, the two countries are reviewing the export of Vietnamese tangerines, plums, lemons, pomegranates, among other produce for plant variety purposes. The US has also approved the export of Vietnamese timber, warm-water shrimp, and honey, subject to trade defense case outcomes. Both countries are working on a framework to strengthen risk analysis, pest management, and digital quarantine management. The US is a crucial market for Vietnam's agricultural, forestry, and fishery exports, which are projected to reach 10.96 billion USD in 2023, accounting for approximately 20.7% of its total agricultural export earnings.
