Sheeppox epidemics broke out in China in 1997 and 1999, leading to high mortality rates among young and adult sheep and negatively impacting the local sheep raising industry. Since 1999, there have been no reported cases of sheeppox, and Taiwan has been recognized as a non-epidemic country. The Ministry of Agriculture plans to continue improving the domestic sheep raising industry to strengthen market segmentation and create unique market positioning for domestic mutton and goat milk products.
