The global rice export market in 2023 is expected to see changes due to India's suspension of non-basmati white rice exports, leading to increased opportunities for Vietnam and Thailand. Despite a decrease in India's exports, it continues to export rice through Government-to-Government contracts. Thailand's exports increased in 2023 but are expected to decrease in 2024. Vietnam remains the leading supplier to the Philippines and has become the largest supplier to China. Indonesia's imports are expected to grow significantly, mainly from Thailand and Vietnam. However, Indonesia's rice output is predicted to drop in early 2024 due to El Nino, leading to increased imports. Despite the decrease in supply, rice prices are not expected to fall. Prices from major producers reached a 15-year high in 2023, and the global rice price index rose by 21%.
