The Ministry of Economy in Guatemala has identified nine new export markets from January to July of this year, including Libya, Ivory Coast, Afghanistan, Egypt, Russia, Switzerland, Finland, Thailand, and the United Kingdom. The country has experienced a 21.7% increase in export value and a 14.7% increase in volume from January to July 2021 compared to the previous year. The top ten export products include medicines, knitted fabrics, electrical energy, coffee, bananas, iron, steel, cardamom, vegetables, rum, and sugar. Efforts are being made to reduce bureaucracy and support Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to formalize and link to new markets. Progress has been made in reducing the time required for construction licenses and supporting MSMEs has resulted in significant sales for the owners of these businesses.
