Spanish and Valencian rice companies, including La Fallera, Arroz SOS, Arroz Dacsa and ARCESA, have been criticized by agricultural organization LA UNIÓ Llauradora for importing 25,000 tons of rice from Southeast Asia. The organization argues that these imports, which do not meet European standards for the production and use of phytosanitary products, are unnecessary as local warehouses are already full due to a slowdown in purchases. They also claim that these imports are used to lower the price of local rice.
