Argentina's General Directorate of Customs (DGA) has uncovered under-invoicing schemes in 523 beef export permits for USD 11,908,320 during the 2021-2022 period. Involving 22 exporting refrigerators, these schemes involved re-invoicing operations through traders with no substantial economic activity in Cyprus, Uruguay, Switzerland, and the United States, aiming to evade taxes and reduce export duties. The information for this investigation came from exchange agreements with other customs, including the Indira system. The article also highlights an issue where regular cows are misrepresented as old or preserved, leading to under-invoicing and evading Senasa controls. This practice is prevalent among six large refrigerators, with fines applied for these offenses surging to USD 1,018.4 million in the second half of 2022, marking a 667% increase from the previous semester.
