The World Association for Apples and Pears has lowered its forecast for the apple and pear harvest in the European Union. The forecast for apples has decreased by nearly 4% to under 11 million tons, while the forecast for pears has decreased by less than 2% to 1.72 million tons. These changes in forecasts are due to adverse weather conditions, including drought, floods, hail, hot nights, and an increase in pests, which have negatively impacted fruit trees in the EU.
