Abel Zamora Corona, a farmer in Zacualpan, Tlaxcala, has successfully cultivated cucumbers in a 1,000-meter greenhouse, expecting to yield about 25 tons from two cuts. This venture, which cost around 35,000 pesos and involves around 3,800 plants, marks a departure from his previous experimentation with tomatoes. The cucumbers, variety 5-43, are currently being sold in Zacatelco and will be distributed in Puebla's central supply store, with plans to sell 25 tons in the coming weekend. Zamora's experience highlights the diversity in vegetable production in Tlaxcala and the potential benefits of trying new crops, such as cucumbers, which offer a shorter harvest time and lower production costs.
