They warn of the increased risk of entry of lumpy skin disease in Spain

A recent publication from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) warns of the risk of Lumpy Skin Disease (NCD). This is a viral disease that exclusively affects cattle, caused by viruses of the Poxviridae family, Capripoxvirus genus, which is transmitted mainly through insects (horseflies, flies and mosquitoes, among others), which act as mechanical vectors between infected and/or sick animals (especially if they have skin lesions) and healthy animals. The direct route through contact between a sick and healthy animal, although possible, is less effective. The disease in cattle usually has a slow and progressive course with fever, despondency, anorexia, excessive salivation, oculo-nasal discharge, agalactia and weight loss.
