In Peru, the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) has launched an initiative to construct 3,080 sheds to shelter over 360,000 alpacas and sheep in the high Andean regions. This effort, part of the 'Multi-sector Frost and Cold Plan 2022-2024' and funded with more than S/52 million, aims to provide thermal comfort and protect the livestock from severe weather, thereby reducing their morbidity and mortality rates. The sheds, built with local materials and labor, can each accommodate 120 animals and are equipped with adobe, stone, or block walls, a metal door, and a corrugated board roof. This initiative has already shown significant success in decreasing livestock mortality in frost-prone areas, enhancing the livelihoods of high Andean breeders.
