The provisional application of a new sustainable fishing agreement between the European Union (EU) and Mauritania has commenced, following the expiration of the previous agreement. The agreement ensures the continuity of the Spanish fishing fleet in Mauritanian waters, benefiting regions such as Andalusia, Galicia, the Canary Islands, and the Basque Country. The Council of Ministers of the EU has agreed to the temporary application of the agreement, which lasts for five years and maintains fishing opportunities and the EU's financial contribution of 62 million euros for the first two years. The agreement is pending ratification by the European Parliament.
