Russia is expected to harvest approximately 2 million tons of rye in 2021, a slight decrease from the average long-term level but an improvement from the 2019 disaster. The quality of the harvest is high, with 72.5% being high-quality rye, which is the best in the past decade. Rye is currently one of the cheapest types of grain in Russia. The export of rye is slow and unstable, with only 28 thousand tons shipped outside the Customs Union this season. Farmers may continue to show interest in rye production next year, as the sales market is limited and the area sown with rye has increased from the previous year.
