Three pistachio processing companies in Castilla-La Mancha have formed the Association of Spanish Pistachio Industries to standardize and defend the quality of their product for international competition, mainly with the United States, the world's main producer. The association aims to create a code of good practices, promote hygienic-sanitary standards, and increase membership to at least 30-40% of the region's processors. They also seek the creation of a designation of origin for Castilla-La Mancha pistachios and the establishment of market prices in Toledo, as well as homogenization values for processing pistachios.
