Togo harvested 940,876 tons of yam roots during the 2020-2021 season, with the Togolese Institute of Agricultural Research working to improve yield. The average yield is currently less than 10 tons/ha, but can be increased to 15-20 tons/ha with new high yielding varieties and technical recommendations. The country mainly grows Kratchi, Florido, He-abalo, Alassora, Laboco, Gnamiti, Djatiba, TDR 99/01169, TDA 89/02665, Brutani, Motchi, and Moniya varieties. Yam is the second most eaten tuber in Togo, following cassava.
