In 2024, Togo's cashew nut production fell by 16% to 34,500 tonnes from 41,000 tonnes in 2023, according to N’Kalô and Ecofin Agency. Despite this decline, Togo remains a significant player in the cashew industry, acting as an export hub for neighboring countries like Benin and Burkina Faso. The combined cashew trade among these nations totals around 165,000 tonnes, with major exports directed to India, Vietnam, and China. Only 11.6% of Togo's cashew production is processed domestically. This decrease in production is part of a broader trend in West Africa, where overall output dropped by about 15% due to adverse climate conditions, with the region's total production at approximately 2.6 million tonnes, down from 3.1 million tonnes the previous year. Côte d'Ivoire, Nigeria, and Guinea-Bissau are the leading producers in the region.
