Argentina is a major producer of tomatoes, with the crop being the country's second most important horticultural crop after the potato. The cultivation of tomatoes is mainly in the provinces of Mendoza and San Juan, and the area cultivated has seen a 36% increase since 2019. The country has also seen a consistent increase in tomato exports for fresh consumption over the past ten years, with 25,000 tons already exported in 2022. The National Service for Agrifood Health and Quality (Senasa) plays a key role in the tomato industry, promoting consumption, improving quality, and coordinating monitoring and emergency plans. The family sector plays a significant role in marketing tomatoes, particularly in concentrator markets and free fairs.
