The Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Quarantine Headquarters in South Korea announced no disruption in tomato exports to Japan despite the detection of the 'tomato hornworm' pest in some farms. The pest, which can cause significant damage to tomato plants, was caught during a regular pest surveillance, raising concerns as it is a quarantine pest in Japan. However, exports are set to continue with increased surveillance and control measures, including a meeting with Japanese plant quarantine experts to discuss export management requirements. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs in South Korea will support the costs for necessary networks to comply with export control measures and will develop a tomato export management plan based on cooperation with Japan. Farmers are encouraged to actively control pests to maintain exports.
