Between January and February 2024, Turkey's anchovy exports saw a significant increase, with a 35% rise in value and a 90% surge in quantity, reaching $2 million 119 thousand 896 across 18 countries. Belgium, the United States, and France emerged as the top importers. Ahmet Hamdi Gürdoğan, from the Eastern Black Sea Exporters' Association, attributed this growth to a shift towards exporting canned anchovies. However, he warned of an impending halt in exports due to a hunting ban starting April 15. Gürdoğan also recommended delaying the anchovy season's start to protect fish stocks and urged the adoption of aquaculture practices similar to those in Japan and Norway to enhance stocks and develop value-added products.
