Peruvian food exports have seen a significant increase of 16% per year on average from 2001 to 2019, compared to an average annual growth of 8% in global food exports. In 2019, despite a decrease in total Peruvian exports by 3%, agro-industrial exports grew by 10%. The United States and China are the primary destinations for Peruvian agro-exports, accounting for approximately 40% and 3% respectively. The former saw a growth of 24% in 2019, while the latter experienced an 18% increase. The former Minister of Production, Alfonso Velásquez Tuesta, emphasized the need for increased collaboration between public, private, and academic sectors to capitalize on the opportunities in the growing food demand within the next 30 years. He also stressed the importance of including family farming in this market strategy and introducing new value chains.
