The Canary Islands' tomato and cucumber sector has proposed a reconversion plan to the regional government to ensure its sustainability, exploring alternative crops like papaya or pitahaya. This initiative, developed by a working group of agricultural organizations and employers' associations, also considers the possibility of early retirement for some workers. A meeting is set for April 10 to negotiate the Regional Agreement for Agriculture, which expired in 2018. This plan represents a strategic effort to adapt and secure the future of agriculture in the Canary Islands.
