Trat Province in Thailand is taking preventative measures to prevent the encroachment of black-chin tilapia by regularly monitoring and surveying all water sources. In collaboration with various agencies, the province has released 3,000 white sea bass fry into the Welu River to control the population of black-chin tilapia and provide an economic benefit for villagers. No outbreaks of black-chin tilapia have been found in Trat Province so far. The provincial fisheries office is also educating the public to help monitor the spread of black-chin tilapia and has a plan in place to survey natural water sources and aquatic animal breeding ponds.
