The Ministry of Agriculture in Spain has successfully completed trials of new varieties of winter crops, aiming to increase productivity and profitability. The trials involved 101 applications for new varieties across 15 different species, with cereals being the most prominent. Despite some variability due to climatic conditions, the trials showed notable productivity in most areas. The results will be used to ensure that new crop varieties meet yield, quality, and adaptability requirements, and only the most robust and productive will be registered for farmers. Once the varieties pass technical tests for two consecutive years, they will be included in the Register of Commercial Varieties and made available for commercialisation in the EU and OECD community territory.
