The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations reported a 12% increase in world trade of tropical fruits, reaching a record $11.2 billion in 2023. This surge was attributed to favorable weather conditions that boosted production, especially of avocados in Mexico and pineapples in Costa Rica. Despite some challenges with papaya exports due to adverse weather, the demand for tropical fruits remained high in the US and EU markets, driven by the recovery of the hotel sector and consumers' growing preference for nutrient-rich foods.
