Vietnam's tuna exports to the EU market have experienced a significant growth of 47% in the third quarter of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021, reaching over 46 million USD. This growth is also a 41% increase from the same period in 2019, despite the pandemic. The first nine months of 2022 saw a tuna export turnover of over 123 million USD, up 16% from the same period. This growth is attributed to the peak holiday season, the effect of the veda ban in the EPO area, and the competitive tariff advantages of Vietnamese tuna products under the EVFTA agreement. Despite high sea freight costs, EU canners are shifting away from the port of Rotterdam, with Belgium seeing an 111% increase in imports. Other EU markets like Romania, France, and Denmark are also showing strong growth in tuna imports.
