The 2019/2020 Tunisian citrus harvest is facing challenges, both domestically and in exports, due to several factors. The domestic marketing of citrus is struggling due to large producers and traders being unable to purchase in large quantities, leading to falling prices and financial difficulties for farmers. The president of the Regional Union of Agriculture and Fisheries (URAP) in Nabeul, Imad el Bey, highlighted the sector's challenges, including local marketing and exports. The reluctance to buy citrus fruits is anticipated in the evolution of the epidemiological situation and the impact on export operations. The presence of diseases such as 'black spot' is also affecting the harvest, with exports not exceeding 7,000 tonnes of Maltese oranges to France, a significant drop from previous annual rates. Additionally, insufficient rainfall is affecting the volume of the harvest.
