A significant portion of Turkey's tuna exports, amounting to 130 million dollars, is directed to Japan and South Korea. According to information from the Exporters' Associations, Turkish fishermen caught 12,534 tunas last year. Compared to the previous year, there was a 256 percent increase in the tunas, with bluefin tunas making up the majority. Turkish exporters shipped the tunas caught in open waters, primarily to Japan and South Korea, but also to Russia, the USA, Germany, Mexico, and Greece. Last year, the income from exports increased by 153 percent compared to 2023, reaching 130 million dollars. Of this amount, 99 million dollars went to Japan, and 29.5 million dollars went to South Korea. Almost all of the tunas caught by Turkish fishermen were consumed by these two countries. The export value to Japan increased by 58 percent, and to South Korea by 245 percent.
