In brief: • The country with new quotas on sunflower oil and seeds • The price of bread has increased by 50% over a year Turkey has reduced import tariffs on sunflower oil from 36% to 30% and on sunflower seeds from 20% to 12%, according to a decree published in the Official Gazette on August 27. The new tariffs will take effect on October 1, 2025. This initiative is a result of a July decision to introduce import quotas on sunflower seeds and crude sunflower oil from January 12 to May 31, 2026. According to the program, industrial processors will be able to import 1 million tons of sunflower seeds duty-free or the equivalent of 400,000 tons of crude sunflower oil with a reduced tariff of 20%. The changes are aimed at supporting the Turkish vegetable oil sector and increasing its competitiveness in the international market.
