Turkey is experiencing a surge in blueberry cultivation, with the area dedicated to the crop doubling in 2021 and expected to expand to over 5,000 hectares in the next decade, yielding 100,000 tons of berries. The industry, led by Safir Berry and other investors, plans to include raspberry and blackberry varieties and targets Europe and Middle Eastern markets. However, extreme weather conditions presented by climate change pose a threat to production, necessitating the use of tunnels and greenhouses. The local market, while demand is currently low due to high prices, is expected to grow as berry consumption rises globally.
