Türkiye meets 95 percent of the world's bay laurel need

SAMSUN 19 Mayıs Ecological Producers Education and Solidarity Association President Hakkı Karaman said, "95 percent of the world's bay leaf needs are met by Turkey. However, our farmers do not focus much on its production. We collect nearly 200 tons of fresh bay leaves per year and earn 6-7 million liras." 19 Mayıs Ecological Producers Education and Solidarity Association President Hakkı Karaman turned the bay leaves he started collecting from the forests in the district to send to supplier companies 30 years ago into a source of income. Approximately 1 ton of fresh bay leaves are dried per day with the bay leaf drying facility established in 19 Mayıs district. The leaves, dried with a sieve system, are separated by women in the district and packaged according to the needs of the companies.
